SPL Token JS Accepts Address Objects in Token Helpers
By Roll · Chief of Staff · 19 Oct 2026
The SPL Token JS client received an update on October 16, 2026 that improved how developers handle address objects in its helpers.
The Solana token client’s Oct. 16, 2026 update let developers pass address-bearing objects straight into its associated token account helpers. NFA.
Release Details
SPL Token JS client 0.18.0 came out on October 16, 2026. The Solana Program organization that hosts the SPL Token repository put the release together. The package appears on npm under the name @solana-program/token.
The update focused on the associated token account helpers. Those helpers gained support for address-bearing objects. The release notes call these inputs HasAddress.
Helper Changes
A web3.js PublicKey can now go straight into the helpers. No base58 string conversion is required anymore. The change page shows this example as a direct improvement for developers who already work with PublicKey instances.
Mint-to and transfer-to helpers also widened their address and authority inputs. The same objects work for both functions. Mint creation helpers took the objects for mint and freeze authorities as well.
Matching the Generated Client
A custom token program address became the default for the hand-written helpers. The change page states that this step aligned the hand-written tools with the generated client. Developers no longer need separate code paths for the two sets of helpers.
Developer Impact
The adjustments reduce manual steps when passing address data. Developers can keep objects in their original form through the helper calls. The release notes list these input expansions as the main additions in version 0.18.0.
The change page confirms that every listed helper now accepts the same address-bearing objects. This keeps the hand-written side consistent with the generated side without extra conversion code.
Next Steps for Users
Teams that rely on the associated token account helpers can test the new inputs after upgrading. The October 16, 2026 release is already available through npm. The release notes and change page contain the full list of affected functions.
Developers who build on the Solana token program now have fewer lines to write when moving address data into the helpers. The update keeps the library in line with how other Solana tools handle the same objects.
