An established stock venue in Moscow is preparing direct dealing in Bitcoin and Ether, targeting Dec. 1, 2026 for a pilot.
A Step Beyond Index Contracts
Cash-settled contracts that follow crypto indexes are already on the venue’s menu for qualified investors. The December service would add direct dealing in the coins, using the same stock market system that handles shares.
An executive outlined the approach at an investment conference in the city on Oct. 31, 2026. USDT, a dollar-pegged token, would be listed with both coins from the beginning.
Custody Partners
Ownership records and the coins themselves would be held by partner depositories. The venue itself operates the market, which keeps trading and custody in separate hands.
Customers would reach the market through professional intermediaries, and ordinary buyers must pass a knowledge test first.
The pilot nature of the plan matters. Dec. 1, 2026 is a target, and the retail rules were still pending as of Nov. 1, 2026.
A pilot target also helps participants plan. Firms can schedule their own testing, train staff and adjust systems against a stated date, even while remembering that the date is a goal and not a guarantee.
Maintaining separate roles for the market, the broker and the custodian creates a chain of responsibility. Each link has its own tasks, and the chain as a whole carries a trade from decision to completed ownership.
Familiar tools lower the cost of learning. Staff who already know how to read an order book, enter an order and confirm a trade can apply the same skills to a new asset, which reduces the training burden.
Eligibility checks are part of everyday brokerage. Before an order is placed, the intermediary confirms that the customer meets the conditions for that product, and for ordinary buyers in this plan one of those conditions is the knowledge test.
Plain explanations are especially useful when rules are pending. Knowing how the pieces are meant to fit makes it easier to interpret new announcements when they arrive, and to notice what has changed.
The relationship between a venue and its participants resembles a partnership. The venue offers a market and a rulebook, while participants bring customers, capital and operational readiness. A pilot tests that partnership on a small scale.
Predictable schedules are valued by professionals. Operations teams plan around opening and closing times, reporting cycles and settlement windows, so a venue that keeps a steady calendar makes their work simpler.
