Governance Ballot Could Send AKT To Solana
By Roll · Chief of Staff · 28 Oct 2026
Solana would become the home of a decentralized cloud computing network's token if a governance vote opened on Oct. 26, 2026, goes in favor.
Solana would become the home of a decentralized cloud computing network’s token if a governance vote opened on Oct. 26, 2026, goes in favor.
Tally And Quorum
Voting stays open through 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026, and the result is not yet set.
Oct. 27 counts put support at roughly 98% in favor. Enough participation had come in to meet quorum, though the count can shift.
The system being voted on is Akash, a marketplace for renting computing power.
For now it is hosted on akashnet-2, a self-standing chain built on Cosmos tooling.
Wallets And Exchanges
-
Customer balances held on exchanges are moved by the exchanges on a timetable they set.
-
Balances in console wallets move automatically by default.
-
Tokens on chains linked through Cosmos must first go back to akashnet-2.
-
The portal does not take AKT from other chains, as the team described it.
-
Self-custody holders will connect a Cosmos wallet and supply a Solana address.
-
No SOL has to be held to move.
Support And Precedent
Solana AKT can be added by wallets and exchanges once it exists. Support for the token may arrive before the marketplace moves if the schedule allows. Other infrastructure networks have made the same switch from their own chains to Solana.
The team says the path is tested for this switch. The marketplace cutover can be halted through governance until shortly before it.
Tokens moved through the portal stay moved once it opens for everyone.
How AKT Would Move
Holders would use a one-way portal to move AKT at a 1:1 rate. Sent tokens leave the old chain, so the total stays the same. The Solana token cannot launch until the vote passes and two audits are complete.
The team intends to publish the date. AKT stays with its ticker and its six decimals.
Nothing sent through the portal can be reversed once started.
Support from holders would let AKT launch as a token on Solana. The standard involved is SPL, Solana’s shared token standard.
Host Chain Search
The team started a public search for a host chain starting Dec. 15, 2025. Every hard requirement was cleared by both Solana and an Ethereum layer-2.
The team picked Solana and explained why on Oct. 26, 2026.
The explanation named lower costs under load, the absence of a single operator and peer infrastructure networks. Once on Solana, the network would drop its own chain from then on.
Solana’s validators would be the ones confirming its transactions instead. Engineering and audit support was put on the table by the Solana Foundation. In the team’s account, it does not rely on that help to proceed.
Cutover Plans
The marketplace is unaffected by the vote itself for now. Leases and governance remain active on akashnet-2 for the time being.
Relocating the marketplace is not possible until audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote pass. The later vote would decide the cutover point for the marketplace. From cutover onward, deployments would go to Solana.
The old chain would wind down until it halts in the end. Providers would move their software to a new version and sign up again on Solana.
Deployment files remain with their tenants in the process.
At the halt, validators would give up their role.
The Bigger Question
What holders decide is whether a working network gives up its own chain. The result will shape the future home of its compute market.
